Although CSBS was formed in 1996, Colin Stephen has been working in the professional audio business since 1977 when he joined BBC Scotland as an audio assistant, gaining experience in both radio and television studios and outside broadcasts.  After five years there, he spent a further five years at TV-am in London.

A spell of eight years as a freelance sound recordist followed, including extensive travelling across the world, working on a diverse range of programmes.  Since the inception of CSBS, a small and select group of freelance sound operators have been employed across the range of programmes we have serviced.  These include many BBC outlets; BBC Scotland Sport, BBC Religious programming, Radios 3 & 4 at the Edinburgh Festival, MTV, Channel 4, TWI and BSkyB. CSBS operates in two main areas of the provision of audio facilities – live broadcast and recording.
